WASH Sector Seeks Funding for Hygiene Promotion Technical Guideline Development

news

In Liberia, hygiene is relatively neglected within the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) sector; improving access to water and latrines often overshadows the need to promote healthy hygiene behaviours within WASH

programs, and best practices are not shared. Additionally, hygiene promotion is largely uncoordinated amongst Government and partners. Hygiene Promotion technical guidelines remain in draft form. Several Information, Education and Communication/ Behaviour Change Communication (IEC/BCC) materials exist, some of which have been cleared by the Ministry of Health & Social Welfare (MOHSW), but these materials have not been compiled into a standard hygiene promotion package.

The Liberia WASH Sector Strategic Plan (SSP), 2012-2017, prioritizes the development of national guidelines for hygiene promotion with IEC/BCC materials and clarification on linkages to CLTS, PHAST, social marketing and sanitation marketing (1.6.5 in the SSP).

The WASH sector seeks funding to develop national hygiene promotion guidelines. Please find the Concept Note: Development of the National Hygiene Promotion Guidelines attached.
